Crude Oil Price History

February 11, 2015:  Gasoline prices are near $2 a gallon! Remember that falling gasoline pries are similar to a tax cut for the economy so this should stimulate economic growth.

From Chartoftheday.com1
As result of an overall sluggish global economy plus increased global supply, the price of crude oil continues to trade at a relatively low $50 per barrel. As a result, the cost of one gallon of gasoline has declined a significant $1.50 (i.e. 40%) over the past eight months. Today's chart provides some long-term perspective in regards to gasoline prices by presenting the inflation-adjusted US price of one gallon of gasoline since 1980. There are a few points of interest. For one, geopolitical crises are often associated with major swings in the price of gasoline. It is also worth noting that the last time there was an oil price war/supply glut (mid-1980s), gasoline prices held at a relatively low level for nearly two decades.
