April 15, 2013: Today is "Tax Day" when US Federal income taxes for 2012 must be paid even if you file for an extension. 39.6% is the top Federal marginal tax rate in 2013. Last year, 2012, the top marginal tax rate was "only" 35%. With the new tax rates for 2013, there is a huge penalty for two people to marry if they are both in the higher tax brackets, especially if their combined income pushes them above the $450,000 threshold. |
