November 8, 2014: This month PenFed increased rates for money market certificates, what they call CDs, with terms between two years and seven years while cutting slightly the rate paid on one year certificates. The one year CD at PenFed will now only pay 1.00% APY (annual percentage yield.) As of today, you can get higher rates at the banks listed below. For example, Synchrony Bank is offering 2.25% for a 5-year CD with FDIC. This is 0.5% higher than the 5-year CD offered by PenFed. Also, if you change the term to 1-yr. in the rate tool then click "Update Results" you get 1.05% at Synchrony Bank, which is better than PenFed.
